Day 1: Steep hill and a steeper learning curve

I could blame it all on the mountains, but all of you know that, first of all, it was not the mountain but a hill, and second, you know how hard I trained (!). It was a fun ride today still but the little hills are the killers. You cycle all the the way to the top in 30 min but then the drop is done in about 5 seconds. Nature plays tricks on you: one thinks the road is going down but it's an illusion - the road is still climbing.

I started from Alesund at about 0430 but was still in the grips of Alesund suburbs at 0630. The idea was to get to Sjøholt Shell gas station by 0800 which I did with no big trouble. After the breakfast, it was all up hill and it was a killer. It was as if the road would never end and my legs were not there. I could have walked faster then I cycled. After the hill, I had to rethink my goal and decided to pitch a tent at Ørskogfjell.

Which is far short of my goal but I am on holiday so I can stop where I want to and do the distance that I want to.

So I'll keep it short and say it's not the steep mountains which kill your legs but the bloody rolling hills.
